Senior portraits are one of those photography milestones that seem straightforward until you're actually planning one. Here's what you actually need to know to plan a senior portrait session in Los Angeles that produces images you'll be proud to share.

When to Book Your Senior Portrait Session

The best time to schedule senior portraits in the Los Angeles area is late summer through early fall — typically July through October. This gives you golden-hour light and enough lead time before yearbook deadlines, which typically fall in October or November for most LA-area schools. Book at least four to six weeks before your desired session date.

Choosing the Right Location in Los Angeles

  • Urban and editorial: Downtown LA, Arts District, Exposition Park

  • Beach and coastal: Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes

  • Greenery and nature: Griffith Park, Descanso Gardens, Kenneth Hahn Park

  • Inglewood area: SoFi Stadium surroundings, Centinela Park

How Many Outfits Should You Bring?

Two to four outfits is the sweet spot. One casual, one dressy, and one or two that reflect something specific about you — a sport you play, a club you're in, a style that's uniquely yours. Avoid large logos, heavy patterns, or colors that clash with your expected location backgrounds.
