Print Your Photographs — Just the Ones That Matter

Your best photos are dying on a hard drive

Here's an uncomfortable truth after years of shooting families, seniors, and business owners across LA: most of the photos I deliver never get printed. They live on a phone, get posted once, and then slide down into the archive where nobody scrolls back to find them.

I'm not here to tell you to print everything. That's clutter, not memory. I'm telling you to print the ones that actually matter — and to be honest about which ones those are.

Why a screen isn't enough

A screen is temporary by design. You look at an image for two seconds and swipe to the next thing. Notifications pull you away. The photo never gets to breathe.

A print does the opposite. It sits on a wall or a shelf and you walk past it every single day. Your kid notices it. Guests notice it. Ten years from now it's still there, and the phone you shot it on is long gone.

Devices fail. Cloud accounts lapse. Files get corrupted or lost in a switch to a new phone. A good print outlasts all of that.

How to pick "just the ones that matter"

Don't print by quantity. Print by weight. When I hand off a gallery, whether it's from high school senior portraits in Los Angeles or a family session, I tell people the same thing: pick the frames that make you feel something.

A few questions that help:

• Which photo would you grab first if the house was on fire?

• Which one makes you stop scrolling every time?

• Which one will your family want in twenty years?

Usually that's five to ten images out of a few hundred. That's your print list. Everything else can stay digital.

Print quality is not optional

A great photo printed cheap looks worse than a phone screen. Skin tones go orange, blacks turn gray, and the paper feels like a receipt.

If you invested in professional headshots and branding portraits or a milestone shoot, don't finish the job at a drugstore kiosk. Use a real print lab, ask about color calibration, and choose paper with some substance to it. The difference is obvious the moment you hold both side by side.

This matters for businesses too

Prints aren't just a family thing. A printed portrait wall in your office, a framed brand image in your lobby, a physical lookbook on the coffee table — those all say something a website can't. They make the work real for a client who's standing in front of you.

If you're already building a library of images for your company, printing the strongest few is the cheapest, highest-impact thing you can do with them.

Do it now, not "someday"

Every photographer hears the same line: "I'll get around to printing those." Almost nobody does.

So here's the move. Open your favorite gallery today. Pick your five. Order them this week. That's it.

If you've got a session coming up or a gallery you never finished dealing with, reach out and book a session or ask about prints — I'd rather see your best photos on a wall than lost on a dead phone.
